Rising Stars of the South Quartet Competition
Barbershop Quartet Contest for Young Women

Dixie Region #23 of Sweet Adelines International
ELIGIBLE CONTESTANTS
Female quartets whose members reside or attend school in
Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, or the panhandle
of Florida, and are under the age of 25 as of July 19, 2008.
CONTEST
Quartets will perform two songs on four-part barbershop
style harmony. Performances will be evaluated by four judges
in the areas of Sound, Music, Expression, and Showmanship.
Contest rules parallel those of the Rising Star
International Competition. A full listing of competition
rules is included in the competition registration packet, or
it can be obtained by contacting Jennifer Cooke (contact
information below).
COMPETITION
The contest will be held in conjunction with Heart of
Dixie Region 23 Regional Quartet and Chorus Competition.
Each competing quartet and a chaperone will receive
complimentary tickets to the competition sessions and the
Saturday night show; all travel and other accommodations are
the responsibility of the competitors.
PRIZES

Winning (champion) quartet will perform
on the Saturday night afterglow show (March 29).

Champion quartet and one chaperone will
have the opportunity to attend the Sweet Adelines
International Education Symposium, a 4-day music
education event, July 17-20, 2008, at Trinity University
in San Antonio, Texas. Region 23 will provide $400
towards this event (quartet must score at a minimum
level of “excellent” to qualify for funding).

Champion quartet will compete in the
Rising Star Quartet Contest at the International
Education Symposium on Friday, July 18, 2008.
